For many years of my life, I felt I never made a difference in this world. I’ve actually fallen off the world a few times, just to see if anyone noticed. They didn’t. Or if they did, they didn’t contact me. I’m learning to make a difference in my own small way, right where I’m at.
How am I doing this? Relationship. It’s all about the relationships you have, and the ones God brings you. In the past, I’ve tried different ways to go about having friends and how I dealt with family. I was very shy most of my life and my interaction with others was quite limited. That may have been why I felt I didn’t make a difference.
I’d look around and see what other people were doing. Some of them would be the same age, or have the same gifting. But they’d get open doors and opportunities, and I’d be “stuck at home” doing virtually nothing, or so it seemed to me.
We can’t all be famous people or even well-known. But the key is to be significant where you are…with your family members, your closest friends, and others in your circle.
An encouraging word is something everyone needs from time to time. Some need it more than others. Be on the lookout for a way to encourage someone today…whether it be a co-worker, a friend, or a family member.
Today, I was called “Sensei” by someone I’m trying to help get the formatting right for a contest entry. That made me smile. My husband has been called Sensei by someone he mentored in how to run a marathon.
Who can you encourage today? Let me inspire you to see something in someone you’re in contact with on a daily basis, and give them a boost by a compliment, or by cheering them on. Or helping them see their value––when they’ve suffered a defeat.
You can make a difference right where you are. You don’t even have to travel. Send them a snail mail note, or an email reassurance. Or call them or text them. You never know, in light of eternity, how your “word” of encouragement helped them today.
How has someone encouraged you lately? Leave a comment and let me know.
