Don’t Wait! Have FUN now!
In a week and a half, I’m going to do something incredibly fun. I’m taking a step, planning for fun, and enjoying my life. What am I going to do? Click to Tweet Am I walking in the park? Will I go to my favorite restaurant? While these are all fun things to do, I’m going a bit farther, but not St. Louis this time.
I’m going to Tuscon, Arizona with a friend for four days of fun! My friend Darla is originally from Tuscon, but since moving to Arizona 25 years ago, she hasn’t been back in the springtime. She says, “I can’t wait to see the desert bloom again.” I’m excited for her.
Why are we going? To attend The High Chaparral Reunion. Some of you classic western fans may remember that show, and I’ve talked about it here on this blog. #highchaparral #tuscon
We’re going to be meeting not only a couple cast members from The High Chaparral (Don Collier and Rudy Ramos), but from other western or historical shows of that time period of the 1960s as well. The guest list includes: Robert Fuller, Roberta Shore, Darby Hinton, BarBara Luna, Ed Faulkner (a character actor you’ve seen everywhere but don’t remember for sure), and the grandson of actor Joel McCrea, and others. The producers of The High Chaparral, Kent and Susan McCray will also be there, and Stan Ivar from Little House on the Prairie (later years).
Another actor, Dan Haggarty, was also supposed to appear, but he recently died of cancer. He never cancelled his commitment to the Reunion, even when it became apparent he wasn’t going to live long enough to appear. I always liked Dan Haggarty, TV’s Grizzly Adams, the gentle giant of a mountain man.
So, I’m planning on having fun! I haven’t been to a star-studded event like this before. I have seen famous people before, and even interviewed some while in graduate school for our university’s public radio station.
The point I’d like to make is this: if there’s something you want to do, if you can possibly work it out, do it now. Don’t wait. Darla and I have talked about going to the Reunion for several years, but we’re just now doing it.
I’m at an age where I’m not going to wait any longer to do something I really want to do. Sometimes we have to wait to save money so we can do that awesome fun thing we want. At other times, circumstances prevent us from doing something now. Life’s short. We’re here today, gone tomorrow. We don’t have any guarantee that we’ll even wake up tomorrow morning.
So, if it’s possible––don’t wait to do something fun! It can be as easy as going to a nearby park for a walk, getting a piece of pie or cake at your favorite restaurant, or making plans for a big trip. Whatever it is: do it now! Take that first step. Have fun. Enjoy life. Click to Tweet #highchaparral #tuscon
I remember seeing a couple of episodes of this show. I, too, loved Dan Haggerty as Grizzly Adams. I recently purchased the entire series of Grizzly Adams on DVD.
