As It Was in the Days of Noah… Part 1

“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.[1]”
I’ve been studying the Antediluvian period lately. It means “before the deluge.” Before the great Flood that covered the earth, as described in not only Genesis but also in many other ancient civilizations. Why look at this? Because Jesus said the words above from Luke. The disciples had asked him to talk about the end of the age, the end of the world. They wanted to know what it would be like. They wanted to be prepared. They believed in only one appearance of Jesus the Messiah. That’s all the Jewish culture knew. Their Messiah would come and reign over all the earth. Israel would be saved from all enemies at that point.
They didn’t understand Isaiah 53. They didn’t realize that their Messiah would come twice. However, while he was on earth, Jesus taught his disciples that even though he would depart for a while, he would return. That set the stage for Jesus to answer their question. They asked him what it would be like before the Kingdom of God would be set up on earth. Jesus answered, “And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man.”
What does this mean? What were the days of Noah like? Imagine, for a moment, that humanity has become utterly corrupt. In only nine generations from Adam, mankind has polluted itself and the world around it. Genesis 6 describes what happened. As the population grew, it appears that certain angelic beings known as Watchers decided to leave their heavenly abode and intermingle with human women. Interspecies mating is an abomination to God. It amazes me that he even allowed it to happen.
Jesus said that before he returns, the world will be much like the days of Noah. One of those things was interspecies breeding. We’re doing it again. See the photo from Rick Renner’s book. “These are just a few of the mixed breeds — albeit not the mixing of species — that we know about that have been created. What is being attempted in laboratories across the world — and some in secret, remote locations — violates natural laws and takes us into the realm of what was once thought to be the stuff of science fiction.”[2]

This is only one of the signs we are in the “days of Noah,” but we are leading up to Christ’s triumphant return. I have found that studying ancient history in this way convinces me even more that Christ could return in my lifetime. I have always “felt” that, even as a young woman. What I have learned, though, is that often people feel this because God is about to pour out His Spirit in a revival situation. Evidence of revival is happening right now. I believe it started with Asbury University (again) a couple of years ago and has spread to many college campuses across the country. I recently heard an evangelist say that more people are coming to Christ today than at any other time in history. That’s good news!
