Family is All Relative––Part IV

I’m having such a wonderful time sharing my closest friends with you. This week, it’s Patti. I’ve known her about 14 to 15 years, or something like that. We were introduced at my ladies group by a former employer to both of us. #familyisrelative #friendsascloseasfamily

Patti is gifted with intuition, wisdom, perseverance, and love. She has a fire for the Lord within her that cannot be quenched. That’s one thing I love about her. Her intuitive, prophetic gift is a blessing to many, even though she doesn’t have long gray hair or a gray beard (the “picture” most of us think of when we think of a prophet from God).

There’s a saying that “sticks and stones may break our bones, but words can never hurt us.” Which is so not true. Words hurt us a lot, and can stunt our growth––emotionally, and spiritually. That former employer had said things that were hindering Patti. As soon as I heard those words, I “broke” them off her. Since then, Patti’s growth has been wondrous to behold. I’m just so proud of her.

When I need prayer, I let her know. She’s a prayer warrior, a leader of women, and an amazing friend. Just love her to pieces.

She also has great love and comfort to give, not only to her family, but her friends as well. I was on the receiving end of that when I’d had a huge disappointment in ministry about 11 years ago. A year or so after that, Patti, Melanie, and I went to see a certain minister over in Camp Hill. It was the first time since my disappointment, I would see the man whose ministry “caused” my disappointment.

I thought I could do it. And, I almost did. But, I fell apart. Patti prayed and hugged me. And I’ll never forget that. Melanie did, too. They’re great friends of mine.

She recently had to leave a church she’d been involved with for quite some years. Leaving a church for any reason, is one of the hardest things we do. She needed to leave because the spiritual climate had become unhealthy. It took her a while to leave, and once she did, she went back for a short time, but soon knew the break had to be complete. I’m proud of her for that.

I believe God has more great things in store for Patti. I love being on the journey with her and seeing where she goes.

Do you have close friends that are like family? Leave a comment and let me know. #familyisrelative #friendsascloseasfamily

  1. Thank you for sharing about your friends, Donna. It’s so encouraging to read these kinds of stories! Our modern way of life often leaves little time for the development of close friendships. I still need much growth in this area of my life.
