The Augustness of August—Part II

I just can’t help myself! A sweet little romantic song from my “era” of the 60s-70s was “Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy. When I thought of different songs having to do with summer, of course this one crossed my mind. I’ll have Nat King Cole next week. #AugustnessofAugust #donnalhsmith

A Summer Song by Chad Stuart, Kieth Noble, and Clive Metcalfe

Trees swayin’ in the summer breeze
Showin’ off their silver leaves
As we walked by
Soft kisses on a summer’s day
Laughing all our cares away
Just you and I

Sweet sleepy warmth of summer nights
Gazing at the distant lights
In the starry sky

They say that all good things must end some day
Autumn leaves must fall
But don’t you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you

Wish you didn’t have to go
No no no no
And when the rain
Beats against my window pane
I’ll think of summer days again
And dream of you

I never did have summer romance, which is what this song refers to. That’s OK. I have a permanent romance with my husband of thirty years and with the King of kings forever.

God is grand, majestic and august. That’s where I got the idea of the Augustness of August. It’s the height of summer. Vacation time, back-to-school time. Things end. Other things begin.

For me, one year ends, and another begins. This seems to be the first time in a long time I haven’t been unhappy about a birthday. I had a good day last week. Did my favorite things with my favorite person.

I’m thankful for my health, the wisdom that comes with having lived as long as I have, and for my friends and family. Yes, I’m expanding my “career” at an age when most think of quitting theirs, but honestly, I have nothing to retire from, and I’m just getting started.

What about you? Is God doing grand things in your life? Leave a comment and let me know. #AugustnessofAugust #donnalhsmith

We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; let your light shine through your cracked pot. Ring the bells that still can ring, Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, That's how the light gets in and comes out.
