Happy BLOG Birthday—Part 4

The all-time highest views of any post is part of the series I did on Formatting and Submitting Your Manuscript. I took Jerry Jenkins’ Christian Writers’ Guild, and I’d purchased so many wonderful writing resources, that when I started this blog, I wanted to share them. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

This post is from February 12, 2015. The title is: Writing Resource: Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript, and it gives you basic guidelines. Here’s the link.

Thanks for taking this trip down memory lane with me. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

Happy BLOG Birthday—Part 3

I looked at some statistics yesterday. WordPress is excellent at showing me how many visitors and views are in a day, week, month, or year. It also shows me where people are from, and if they searched, how they found me. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

Today, I’ll share the blog post that holds the record for most views in a day. In 2015, I wrote about a strange rejection I had for Meghan’s Choice in a contest. It was called “Please Get Your Facts Straight.” Everyone agrees with me, when I tell this story, that it is possibly the weirdest rejection they’d ever heard of.

Here’s the Re-blog of it that still gets views today. If you’re a writer, and you have a weirder story than this for a rejection story, I’d like to hear it. Leave a comment and let me know.

Meghan’s Choice is published and made the finals of two contests last year. So, I have come a long way. I feel pretty good about where I’m at. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

Happy BLOG Birthday—Part 2

It’s funny. I couldn’t think of a thing to blog about, but a little thought crossed my mind. How long have I been doing this blog? I remembered starting it toward the beginning of 2014. And I wanted to talk about the process of writing a novel and getting it published. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

I can hardly believe that next week will be the fifth anniversary of this blog! For the rest of the month of February, I’ll be sharing about the blog, plus some of the highest viewed posts and my thoughts about them.

Here’s the second post I published on this blog. It’s entitled “A Rose by any Other Name.”

I’ve come a L-O-N-G way, baby! #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

Happy BLOG Birthday—Part 1

Nearly five years ago, and next week we’ll celebrate more, I started this blog. I’d been blogging on another platform with other emphases. But I started this one after I closed my homemade organic chocolate truffle business in 2014. I’d been making chocolates for seven years. I was getting older and wanted a change. I decided to give writing one last push. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

2014 was a pivotal year for me. I was gonna turn sixty, yes, sixty. Let’s put it this way, I wasn’t looking forward to it. My husband has always looked forward to milestone birthdays because that puts him in another runner’s category—being the youngest age in an age group, rather than the oldest.

For this week and next, I’ll be recounting and re-posting some of my earliest posts from this blog. Originally, I wanted to talk about “process.” How life is a process. That becoming a writer is a process, just as becoming published is.

Click here to see that first post.

You’ve seen my sorrows and my rejoicings on this blog—all about the process of getting my first novel published. #amwriting #BLOGbirthdayFeb172014 #fiveyears @donnalhsmith @a3writers

Do I Deserve to be Here? Part 2

Throwback to childhood

Yesterday, I said if abortion had been legal 25 years earlier, I might not be here. But what about young women/girls who are raped? Should they be forced to carry their child? Not forced. They choose life, not death. Do I deserve to be here? #WhatWasISupposedToBe @donnalhsmith #RayBoltz #prolifeissues TWEETABLE

Do I Deserve to be Here? Part 1

The song “What Was I Supposed to Be?” was brought back to my mind a couple weeks ago after some states voted to allow late-term abortions up until birth. I used to sing this song, and I got to hear a recording of it on Sunday I didn’t know I had. Ray Boltz wrote this well over 25 years ago. If abortion had been legal in the 1950s, I would probably not be here. For those who might even think that abortion should be available for those who have been victimized by rape or incest, again, I would probably not be here. Rose’s Redemption Launch Party

If any of you live close enough, let’s say, central Pennsylvania, Delaware, or northern Maryland—we’re officially launching our second novel, Rose’s Redemption this Saturday, February 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Javateas-Donecker’s, located at 333 North State Street in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. #RosesRedemptionLaunchParty #BookSigning #JavateasDonecker’s @a3writers @donnalhsmith TWEETABLE

A year ago, we had a lovely book signing of Meghan’s Choice at the same location. We had a wonderful time.

Expect a live shot from the party, but I can’t tell you exactly when just yet.

I’ll be having a drawing to give away two great prizes: two different King Arthur Flour mixes: one for cheesecake, the other for coffee cake.

We’ll have copies of Rose’s Redemption available for sale, as well as Meghan’s Choice, if you don’t have that one.

Javateas-Donecker’s serves breakfast and lunch. Here’s more information about them: http://javateas.com/wp/ Their website has a menu to help you plan your visit. We encourage you to come hungry and thirsty. Support Javateas and come on in and get yourself a book!

Happy New Year 2019! See the Possibilities—Part 5

Almost a month of this year GONE—already! It goes so fast! I’m starting to make plans for later this year, and I’m also seeing what unfolds. I sent off an email this morning about teaching at a small writers’ retreat in October. I’m researching a destination for a weekend away. What one step will you take to reach your goal or your dream this year? @donnalhsmith @a3writers #HappyNewYear2019 #Lookforward #SeethePossibilities TWEETABLE

Super Blood Moon OR The Wonder in the Night Sky

Within the past five years or so, there have been at least six blood moons. I missed every one of them—until Sunday night. I thought sure I’d missed this one, too. What do blood moons represent? Is it prophecy? Is it even spiritual? Or is it a totally natural event? @donnalhsmith @a3writers #2019lunareclipse #BloodMoon #SuperMoon TWEETABLE
