God’s Special Effects — Part II

Last week, I talked about the wonders in the sky, and I called them God’s Special Effects. Because they are special. We don’t see them every day. There’s another kind of special effects God has—His people…people who follow Him, who follow His son Jesus. To them, He gives spiritual gifts. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, and they’re mentioned in I Corinthians and Romans. Click to Tweet #GodsSpecialEffects #SpiritualGifts

When I was young, and a new Christian, all I heard about were the manifestation gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in I Corinthians 12:7-11. I went to Oral Roberts University, and Oral himself taught us on these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are: word of wisdom, word of knowledge, gift of faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, tongues, interpretation of tongues.

Verse says: “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” NLT But do we help or harm each other? Over the past half century, there has been a great deal of what could be labeled spiritual abuse. The misuse of spiritual gifts to lord it over others, to manipulate, to discourage, or to glorify oneself over God.

This should not be. We are to help each other.

I Corinthians 12:4 says, “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.” NLT If this is true, why do some “Christians” de-value gifts of the Holy Spirit. I “operate” in the gifts of prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues, word of wisdom, and word of knowledge. What do these mean? I’ll be talking about each one separately.

I’ll begin today with word of knowledge. Simply put, it’s when God tells you something about someone that only that person and He knows. Or, He tells something to someone only you and He knows.

About eighteen years ago, I was waiting in a line of other Bible School students to receive prayer from a prophetic minister. I liked what I heard was given to others in front of me. I said to myself, “Oh, I like that. I think I’ll claim that for me, too.” When I came before that prophetic minister, his first words to me were: “God says you’re claiming other peoples’ words. He says, ‘that’s good.” My jaw probably fell to the floor. Only God and I knew that. Sometimes, it’s happened again to me, too.

I’ve also been the prophetic minister who said something to someone. And they said to me, “Only God and I knew that.” That gives me confidence that I hear from God. Words of knowledge are all part of God’s Special Effects. Click to Tweet #GodsSpecialEffects #SpiritualGifts
