September 2 Remember—Part III

Two years ago, September 2016 was a difficult month for me. A string of disappointments, which I’ve alluded to, had already begun. This particular week was difficult because there was a mosquito in our house, and it kept biting me. In a week’s time, I’d gotten bit 15 times, then a couple days went by, and I got another bite or two. I think I totaled at 17 before I finally found the mosquito and killed it. What was going on? I was being tested again, and I didn’t like it. #tempertemper #refinersfire #September2Remember Click to Tweet

Achievable Believable Character Transformation

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This verse says a lot about our character as people. Character transformation should also be the basis for your major characters. When our characters transform during the course of our story, we have achieved one of the goals of our story. @donnalhsmith #charactertransformation TWEETABLE

September 2 Remember — Part II Where Were You?

It was a beautiful, sunshine-y day, seventeen years ago. I’m not one to get up and turn on the news. My mother lived with us and she had an eye appointment with an optometrist in the late morning. #September2Remember @donnalhsmith @a3writers

September 2 Remember – Part I

Does it seem like time flies by? Well, it does me. The older I get, the faster it goes, too. I’d heard that when I was younger—especially when time seemed to be slow, and nothing was happening. Now that I’m “older,” it really does go by quick. Take the time to enjoy your life and remember what’s important. #September2Remember #donnalhsmith #timeflies Click to Tweet

The Augustness of August—Part IV

It’s definitely summertime here. There’s a heat advisory for today (Tuesday), and I’m going to be hibernating inside in my comfy air conditioning. That’s August here in Pennsylvania. It can be cool one day and really hot the next. What’s your favorite summertime memory from the past? We’re going to look at that, today, as we read the lyrics of Nat King Cole’s song, “In the Good Old Summertime.” @donnalhsmith @a3writers #IntheGoodOldSummertime #AugustnessofAugust

The Romance Plot — Part III

When did you know you “fell in love?” Both lead characters need to do it. #WritingRomance101 @donnalhsmith @a3writers #TheRomancePlot Click to Tweet

To review: In our contemporary romance, Tovah has rejection issues, and Judah is a beta male who’s hiding something. They met at synagogue when Tovah’s homily papers flew right at Judah’s feet. She found him so attractive, she stuttered. Very unlike her, because she is usually an accomplished public speaker.

The Augustness of August—Part III

Where I live in Pennsylvania, the weather in late August begins to cool and I spend time out on my back porch. It’s a large screened-in porch with both an eating and sitting area. I love those days when I can spend the whole day out there. There’s such peace. This photo was taken four years ago. The aftermath of a birthday party.
